Ways To Lift You Up When You Feel Crap

Updated: Jan 22, 2019

Life has its ups and downs and we got to face the fact that it is not always sunshine and rainbow. At times we are feeling extremely down, exhausted, emotionally drained out and the list goes on. This is absolutely normal and fine for any person to go through it. The elevator goes down as well not just up all the time.

Try to think about a time in your life you feel all crappy and so angry at the same time you feel like the whole world is against you. Take only 5 minutes now, close your eyes and remember that moment. You feel like throwing away everything you can find around you, or you feel like stuffing your face to your bed and crying out loud all night, you want to smash the head of your enemy or you might also want to do some stupid crazy silly things to yourself. Now, stop all that; you only needed 5 minutes and now you're done.

I went through similar things almost all the time in my life previously. Not only me, but most people out there. And nowadays, Social Media especially Facebook is a tool that we use to publish our thoughts publicly in order for the other person know exactly what we feel. When we are asked if we are posting things associated to person A or B, we will most of the time respond by saying “Just because I post in on my wall, doesn’t mean I’m going through it and it doesn’t mean that it’s being directed at anyone” or “Maybe it’s just that I like what I read or what I see so share it on my wall” or “You think my status is about you? Are you feeling guilty?” Trust me, I’ve been in the same shoes and said almost similar things. Now that we are not doing it anymore, ask yourself these questions - Is this really important? Is this worth my time? Is this real or it is just the way I feel?

Now, here are some tips or ways you could incorporate in your life whenever you feel down to make you feel better. I keep this list most of the time either in my planner, journal or diary, or even in my phone list and every time the mood turns out to be the worst nightmare, I'll start flipping on either one or few of these things to rise up the level of sunshine inside of me. So here you go:

1) Cry

Yes, you are allowed to cry out for all the miserable things that is happening around you; you are given that moment of your own time to cry out loud, as loud as you can (but do make sure that you are alone either in the car, your room or under the shower - in order for you not to scare anyone else).

You are definitely allowed to display your discomfort or sadness; BUT, please time yourself. Yes, I know I am being very cruel here, but let's get back to reality; you do not want to be in this stage for anytime longer than 5 or 10 minutes. You must learn to shift yourself towards something better, to make you feel better. So time yourself for up to 10 minutes, and that's it!

Now, you need to control your mind and think of the time wasted if you are going to continue crying; think about what you can do to flip the switch and shift yourself to be in a positive mood. You definitely can!

2) Write a Journal!

This is an absolutely great way to represent your feeling and emotions. As you know I am obsessed with journaling, and I would like to share that if you are writing down your thoughts and make it flow down onto papers, you will eventually feel very calmed and it will declutter your mind. Don’t place any judgement towards what you are writing; all you have to do is to go with the flow and jot down every single thing that is running in your mind which is blocking you from moving forward.

Even if you are missing someone badly, of if you have somehow encountered a situation that your friend or a stranger has made you so angry, you can journal it in a way that you are writing a letter for him or her and explain yourself as well as what you think they should have done to make things better (You don’t have to send out the letter!)

Trust me, when you do this, of course this is not going to heal overnight, but sooner or later you will realise that whatever is holding you back is not worth your time when you have so many productive things to do to hustle daily in achieving your dreams and goals. This will also lighten your burden down and in no time you will be rising up rocking yourself in doing what you love to do. Write Up!!

3) Create a Song Playlist and/or Dance!

What else could be a perfect momentum other than listening to upbeat music or your all time party songs?

Turn up the volume and all it takes for you to have is either a music library or Spotify in your phone, a pair of earphone or headphone and you will be living your fabulous moments. One of my favourite Youtuber Kalyn Nicholson has a song list under the name of “idgaf” (It is pretty much self-explanatory) and she compiled this dance party music for her to plug in and cheer herself up whenever she feels down.

Do you know why this is effective?

Have you ever heard or read on how Law of Attraction works?

You attract what you think. If you are feeling down, your mind is in a worrying or anger state and you are having all the negative vibes around you. One of the easiest and fastest ways to push away these negative thoughts is by listening to upbeat music which will have the vibration of high momentum rhythms in your mind. And you are going to train your mind to feel good listening to that music. The moment you stay focus in the music, you are not going to stay gloomy again.

Spice it up by moving your body to the beats; dance your heart out! You will be super energized and by enjoying the music you are going to stay hyperactive. Music On; Dance Now Lovelies!

4) Grab your favourite coffee or eat a healthy snack.

If you are a coffee lover by all means go to the nearest café, call up a friend to join you or ask them to fetch you and bring you over to the best coffee spot and sip your coffee! It doesn’t necessarily need to be coffee; if you are a tea or smoothie person you definitely can go ahead and opt for that. Preferably something warm, as that is the reason why everyone will head over to grab a coffee or tea first thing in the morning to have a clear and fresh mind – makes a person to be productive all the time!

But the main point here is, to enjoy your favourite beverage and the most fabulous thing in the world is to share the moment with your best friend or any acquaintances. If you live in a place that has a balcony, that is where exactly you can have your own sweet time; just you and your coffee.

A warm drink is always beneficial as it provides and immediate relief from having any discomfort moods. On top of that, sipping in hot beverages can also lower stress and reduce the feeling of anxiety.

You can top if off with healthy snacks. We all know from the news on social Medias that one tend to eat more, put on weight when they are feeling extremely down. This is due to the fact that it is way easier to grab junk foods be it chips, biscuits, ice-creams when you are at a stage you don’t feel like moving out of the house. Now that it is easy to order your lunch and dinner with just a call away to MCD, KFC, Pizza and etc.; there is more reason for you succumb into unhealthy diet and destroy your body.

Train your mind to be energetic and mix your own healthy snacks. One of the things that I do is to mix my own snacks. What you can do is to grab few healthy nuts such as pumpkin seeds, walnuts, almonds, cashew nuts, corn flakes, dried fruits and mix all these in a few small containers. Please use small containers as it will be easier to measure the quantity of snack intake per day. Munch on these, instead of high calorie junk foods.

Additionally, you can also prepare vegetable snacks by mixing few green vegetables after you boil them and segregate it in a few containers. By doing this, you are not going to be lethargic (if you don’t feel like moving out of the house) and you are not going to put on weight as it is all very healthy for your mind, body and soul. Stay Healthy!!

5) Read a Book or Inspirational quotes.

Seeking knowledge is one thing that will feed you wonderful input until the end of your life.

When you are reading a book, it connects directly to your brain silently; exceptionally you may listen to soft music. Start reading books that can provide you with self-help discovery, motivational elements, biography of successful people, personal development booster, and many more that will bring you added advantages. If you are studying, you can continue reading on the topics that you major at, of if you are running a business, please do continue learning all the aspects in running a business, if you are running a specific project, you can sharpen your skills and knowledge in what you do to be better than others. It can expand your vocabulary as the more frequent you encounter some new words, the sooner you will introduce them in your usage of words daily.

There are so many books out there - like a huge spider web, and even nowadays you can choose to read online, which is so user-friendly to learn new things that are happening around you. This is the best way to shift your focus and you are making yourself be a better equipped knowledgeable person compared to who you use to be. On top of that go and search for inspiring quotes, those affirmative strong powerful quotes, use it, send it over to your friends and family, post it up as your status (instead of posting unnecessary memories of the past or spreading negative vibes), say it out loud to yourself, be inspired and motivate people around you in order for you to feel the new energy in you!

Those are some of the tips to lift you up when you feel like crap. Don’t let your trials, your temporary misery or your sadness blow you down; let them lift you up!

Keep your head up even if sometimes all you would want to do is hide away; Remember that it always get easier. Practice loving yourself and build trust in you that you are the most fabulous person you’ve ever met! Attract what you desire!!

Love,
